Owls vs Birmingham – Match Preview

The Owls welcome Garry Monk’s Birmingham City to Hillsborough on Tuesday, for their first fixture of the new year.

Lee Bullen is, as of now, set to take charge of his 4th game as Caretaker manager for the Owls this season. Bullen’s previous three games saw 7 points out of a possible 9, with two wins and one draw. Wednesday will be looking to make it 3 out of 4 against Birmingham.

The Owls are not expecting an easy game, keeping in mind that Birmingham City are currently 7th in the Championship and have had a steady run of games, which Wednesday hope they can put to an end.

Sheffield Wednesday last faced Birmingham City just two months ago at St Andrew’s, where they left with no points after the Owls fell from behind to lose 3-1 on the road.

Following Saturday’s draw at West Brom, caretaker manager Lee Bullen had a few words: “Hopefully the last three performances have lifted everybody and we’ll see a big crowd at Hillsborough on Tuesday.

“There are over twenty games left and we want to finish as high as we can, we are heading in the right direction.”

Bullen spent 4 years of his playing career at Wednesday, and has been a supporter ever since.

The Owls welcomed Sam Winnall back to the Matchday 18 on Saturday, after a long spell on the sidelines after getting injured on loan at Derby last season, Winnall could feature tomorrow.

We could see Keiren Westwood and Steven Fletcher return to the starting 11 tomorrow after Bullen confirmed neither were injured, but were being rested.

Sam Winnall returned to first team action after 11 months out.

Meanwhile, the Blues are without Marc Roberts (hamstring), Isaac Vassell (hip) and David Davis (ankle) with Kristian Pedersen (ankle) remaining a doubt for Monk’s selection.

Garry Monk on the Owls: “They’ve picked up their form and seem to be in a positive mood, as are we.

“We’ll recover the players and go again. It’s a big game and a hard game, but we want to finish this four-game period positively.”

Garry Monk played for the Owls in the 2002/03 season on loan from Southampton.
