Rotherham vs Owls – Match Preview

Wednesday are back on the road as they take the short trip to the New York Stadium where they will face Rotherham United in a South Yorkshire Derby.

The Owls will be playing on the back of another goalless draw, after they left The Den sharing points with Millwall on Tuesday. Wednesday, who are currently with 8 clean sheets out of 12 matches, were previously held to a 2-2 draw by the Millers at Hillsborough.

The Owls have won just five games off of home turf this season, but Steve Bruce will look to make that six against a team that he says will bring a tough game his team, in what is likely to be a sold out New York Stadium.

Steve Bruce wants to get Wednesday back on track after hitting a hard road bump this season.

During the pre-match press conference held on Friday, Bruce said, “We are taking a wonderful following and I believe we could have sold it out five times over, it’s a derby and we are looking forward to it.

“We’ll have to be brave otherwise we’ll have a tough afternoon. Paul Warne has done a terrific job, he does things a little different and I’m impressed with what he has done.”

When the question regarding Owls trio Sam Winnall, Gary Hooper, and Kieran Lee arose, Steve Bruce said, “We’re hoping Winnall, Hooper and Lee will play again this season but we will not rush them, we have to be patient. They are very good players, I know what they can do. We have to get them up to speed.

“He [Sam Winnall], needs time. He is still a little bit short. He played on Tuesday against Leeds [U23’s]. He has trained like a beast.”

Steve Bruce also had some wise words regarding the new trio of signings, “They have been here as long as I have. They are there or thereabouts. They will get their chance. I have been delighted with their attitude and they will have a part to play.”

Meanwhile, Tom Lees has got a chance of being fit to feature against Rotherham, Josh Onomah remains sidelined for a number of weeks to go.

The Millers have no fresh injury news, Clark Robertson seems to be okay but has a small ankle issue that keeps catching and rolling, said Paul Warne.
